Underwater Springs Collection

The Underwater Springs Collection is a group of photos taken at several of the numerous springs found in northern Florida. The Florida springs stretch from Ponce de Leon Springs in the panhandle to Tallahassee. Click here for a map of Florida Springs.

Morrison Springs UW1 is the Morrison Springs photo that won the 14th Annual Ford Seahorse Underwater Photo Contest First Place in Diver Portrait and 1st Honorable Mention - Abstract in March 2001. It shows sediment bubbling up from the bottom of the spring.

Ginnie Springs UW1 was taken at Little Devil's Eye at Ginnie Springs. Ginnie springs has 3 caverns: Ginnie, Devil's Eye and Devil's Ear. The Devils Eye/Ear system gives certified cave divers over 30,000 feet of passageway to explore. Devil's Eye and Ear are centrally located in the heart of north-central Florida's spring and cave-diving country. Virtually all of Florida's other popular cavern- and cave-diving sites are within a 30 to 75 minute drive. For more information visit ginniespringsoutdoors.com/dive.html.

Ginnie Springs UW2 is also from Little Devil's Eye. This photo won First Place in the Diver Down category in the P.A.D.I. Project Aware Photo Contest in 2002.

Peacock Springs is the next in the collection of underwater springs photos - Peacock Spring UW1 . Peacock Springs is located in Peacock Springs State Park. The pool area is 60 feet wide and 15 feet deep. Peacock Springs is one of the largest underwater cave systems in the United States. This photo was on the cover of Alert Diver magazine.

Little River Canyon (Little River Spring UW1) is one of the most popular dive spots on the Suwanee River. Near Branford, Florida, this cave usually has a visibility of over 100 feet. Little River was closed for almost a year for renovation. Go to this link for information and before and after pictures. This photo was on the cover of the Diver Alert Network's magazine Alert Diver in June 2002.

The Ginnie Springs UW3 photo is from Ginnie Springs and shows the sun shining through the tanic acid water of the spring. The Ginnie Spring basin is a large, bowl-shaped depression measuring over 100 feet across and 15 feet deep. A 150-foot long run connects the basin to the nearby Santa Fe River. The chief attraction here is the Ginnie cavern, whose wide, open entrance can be found at the bottom of the basin. For more information check out ginniespringsoutdoors.com.

The cave opening at the bottom of Morrison Spring is featured in Morrison Springs UW2. This large basin consists of three main vent openings.  The first cave entrance begins at 30 feet and the other begins at 50 feet.  Depths reach over 90 feet in the caves.

Morrison Springs UW3 also shows Morrison Spring. For more diving information go to underwaterflorida.homestead.com/morrison.htm.

"Getting Your Wings" is the title given to Troy Springs UW1 which was a photo taken at Troy Springs near Branford, Florida. Troy Springs has a large spring basin with depths to 80 feet.  The visibility is good and offers many things to explore including the remnants of an old Confederate steamboat that was sunk. For more information go to underwaterflorida.homestead.com/troy.html.
